An Innovation That Started In The Gym
While owning a 500-member Athletic Club in the 1970s, Jeff Pedersen, former USC Baseball Captain and 3x National Champion, wondered how he might help his members achieve a better, more consistent, and motivational workout. Using his years of experience in training and fitness, Jeff began developing the now well-known Sweet Sweat gel. After four years of successful physical and observational testing on his club members, Sweet Sweat hit the market. Today, Sweet Sweat has expanded to include a wide range of highly functional workout tools, including the best-selling Sweet Sweat Waist Trimmer.

How it works
Biotin (vitamin B7) is a water-soluble B vitamin that acts as a coenzyme for five carboxylase enzymes. These enzymes help the body break down fats, carbohydrates and amino acids, and are involved in making fatty acids. Biotin also plays a role in gene regulation by modifying histone proteins.
It is found in eggs, nuts, seeds, legumes and organ meats. Dietary biotin is often bound to proteins and is released by digestive enzymes before being absorbed in the small intestine. Supplemental biotin is free and easily absorbed. Gut bacteria also make some biotin. The body does not store much, and excess is passed in urine. Biotin supports the normal structure of keratin, the protein in hair, skin and nails (see NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, Biotin fact sheet). True deficiency is uncommon in healthy people.
What people use it for
- Helps maintain healthy hair, skin and nails when dietary intake is inadequate
- Helps support normal energy metabolism
- Helps support the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins
- Helps maintain healthy mucous membranes
- May help support the appearance of healthy hair and nails
Common questions
How long does biotin take to work for hair and nails?
Hair and nails grow slowly, so most people allow at least three months of daily use before judging results. Nails grow around 3 mm a month and hair about 1 cm a month, so change is gradual.
Can biotin affect blood test results?
Yes. High amounts of biotin can interfere with some laboratory tests, including thyroid and troponin tests. Tell your doctor and the pathology lab that you take biotin, and ask whether to pause it before a test.
Safety
Biotin can interfere with some pathology tests, so tell your doctor before any blood work. Seek advice if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and do not exceed the label directions.
