Rehydrate and bounce back faster.

Feeling flat after a hot day or a hard workout? Did you know electrolytes like sodium, potassium and magnesium carry tiny electrical signals in your body and are lost through sweat? Replenish with ease.

Vitamin B-1 from NOW Foods gives you 100mg per serving. Each pack has 100 Tabs.

Electrolytes are minerals that carry a small electrical charge when dissolved in body fluids. The key ones are sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride. They help nerves send signals, muscles contract and the body keep the right balance of water inside and outside cells. We lose electrolytes in sweat, and through heat, illness or heavy exercise, so replacing them along with fluids can help you feel your best.

Delivery: Ships from overseas. Usually arrives in 1 to 2 weeks.

Benefits & common uses

Benefits

  • Helps replace electrolytes lost through sweat during exercise or hot weather.
  • Helps maintain normal fluid balance in the body.
  • Helps maintain normal muscle function.
  • Helps maintain normal nerve function.
  • Helps support hydration when taken with water.
  • Helps relieve muscle cramps associated with low magnesium when dietary intake is inadequate.

What people commonly use it for

  • Muscle cramps during or after exercise (Some clinical studies suggest benefit where sweat losses are high)
  • Tiredness in hot weather (Good clinical evidence that replacing sweat losses supports performance)
  • Feeling dehydrated or washed out (Good clinical evidence)
  • Mild headaches linked to fluid loss (Some clinical studies suggest benefit)
  • Recovery after a long or sweaty workout (Good clinical evidence)

Suggested to use alongside

  • Magnesium: Essential mineral for muscles
  • Amino acids: Popular sports nutrition pairing
  • Coconut water: Natural source of potassium

The science behind it

Electrolytes dissociate into ions in water. Sodium and chloride are the main ions outside cells, while potassium and magnesium are concentrated inside. The difference is maintained by the sodium-potassium pump (Na+/K+-ATPase), which uses a large share of your resting energy. This gradient is what allows nerve impulses and muscle contraction, and it controls the movement of water by osmosis.

Sodium is the main determinant of fluid volume and is lost in the greatest amounts in sweat, at about 400 to 1,200 mg per litre. Potassium helps muscle and nerve function. Magnesium acts as a cofactor in muscle relaxation and energy production, and calcium triggers muscle contraction. Each of these is lost in smaller amounts in sweat.

Sodium also helps drive absorption. In the small intestine, sodium-glucose co-transport (SGLT1) pulls water in along with sodium and a small amount of sugar. This principle underpins oral rehydration solutions, and it is why a drink with sodium and a little glucose can hydrate better than plain water in heavy sweating.

Plain water is enough for most daily activity, and a balanced diet supplies adequate electrolytes. Extra electrolytes are most useful for long exercise sessions of an hour or more, hot conditions or periods of heavy sweating. The Australian Institute of Sport and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements both describe how needs vary with sweat rate.

Common questions

What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium that carry an electrical charge. They are essential for hydration, nerves and muscles.

When should I take electrolytes?

They are most helpful during or after long exercise, in hot weather, or when you have lost fluids through sweating. For short, light activity, water and a balanced diet are usually enough.

Do electrolytes help with dehydration?

Yes. Sodium helps your body absorb and hold on to water, so an electrolyte drink can rehydrate more effectively than water alone after heavy sweating.

Can I drink electrolytes every day?

Many people use them regularly, particularly if active. Check the sodium content, and speak to your healthcare professional if you are on a salt-restricted diet.

What are the signs of low electrolytes?

Common signs include muscle cramps, fatigue, headaches and feeling lightheaded. If symptoms are severe or persistent, see your doctor.

Are electrolyte powders better than sports drinks?

Powders often have less sugar and let you control the strength. Choose based on your activity level and taste.

Safety

Electrolyte products contain sodium and potassium, so speak to your healthcare professional if you have a kidney condition, are on a low-salt diet, or take medicines that affect potassium or fluid balance, such as ACE inhibitors, diuretics or blood pressure medicines. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Seek medical advice for persistent vomiting, diarrhoea or severe cramping.
