CLA Extreme from NOW Foods comes in a pack of 90 Softgels.
Green tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, which are gently steamed or pan-fired to preserve their natural plant compounds. It is one of the most studied beverages in the world and a cornerstone of tea culture across Asia. Rich in catechins, particularly EGCG, along with the calming amino acid L-theanine and a little caffeine, it provides gentle alertness together with antioxidant support.

The science behind it
Green tea leaves are not fermented, so they retain high levels of catechins, a type of polyphenol. The main one is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), followed by EGC, ECG and EC. A cup of tea typically provides 50 to 100 mg of EGCG, depending on how it is brewed.
Antioxidant action. EGCG can neutralise free radicals and chelate metals. It also influences cell signalling, including pathways linked to antioxidant enzymes such as the Nrf2 pathway.
Caffeine and L-theanine. A cup of green tea contains about 20 to 45 mg of caffeine, much less than coffee. L-theanine is an amino acid almost unique to tea. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and promotes alpha brain waves, which are linked to relaxed alertness. Several small trials show caffeine and theanine together improve attention more than either alone (Haskell et al., Biological Psychology, 2008).
Absorption. Catechins are only moderately absorbed. Taking green tea extract with food and avoiding adding milk can help retain bioavailability. High doses on an empty stomach may cause stomach upset.
Extract versus tea. Standardised extracts concentrate catechins, and decaffeinated versions are available. Matcha is made from the whole ground leaf, so it supplies more catechins and caffeine per serve.

Common questions
What is green tea good for?
Green tea provides antioxidants and a gentle mix of caffeine and L-theanine. It is enjoyed for alertness and general wellbeing.
What is EGCG?
EGCG is epigallocatechin gallate, the main catechin in green tea. It is responsible for much of the tea's antioxidant activity.
Does green tea have caffeine?
Yes, but less than coffee, around 20 to 45 mg per cup. Decaffeinated extracts are also available.
When is the best time to drink green tea?
Mornings and early afternoons suit most people. Avoid late in the day if you are sensitive to caffeine.
Can I drink green tea with meals?
Green tea can reduce iron absorption from plant foods. If you have low iron, have it between meals.
Is green tea extract the same as drinking tea?
Extracts are more concentrated in catechins. Both can be part of a healthy routine.
Safety
Contains caffeine, so use caution if you are sensitive, pregnant or breastfeeding. High-dose green tea extracts have been linked to rare liver problems, so take only as directed and avoid on an empty stomach. May interact with blood thinners, stimulants and some medications.
