Gunpowder green tea is a form of stronger green Chinese Tea with a distinctive nutty / oak taste, with a hint of smokiness. It makes a darker green color. We find it to be a very masculine and robust tea. Great for the coffee drinker who is trying to make the switch to the healthier alternative of tea.

Each leaf has been rolled into a small round pellet. The tea leaves are specially selected for quality, size and style. They are then rolled into very small tight nuggets. It is believed to take its English name from the fact that the tea resembles gunpowder pellets used for cannons. Gunpowder tea keeps a lot longer than other green teas because of this characteristic. Chinese exporters recommend gunpowder for iced tea flavored with lemon and sugar. Gunpowder tea is also very popular in Morocco where the leaves are boiled and mint and sugar are added. Mint added to Gunpowder tea also helps soften the bitter, strong flavor.

Gunpowder is more dense than other teas so if you are making a teapot full you only require one or two teaspoons for a teapot.

Gunpowder tea is from China. Our tea is also Certified Organic.

You will receive your tea in the beautiful gift bags shown in the picture on this listing. On the backside of the middle and larger bags, the bag is clear to view the tea, as shown in the pic. One side is gold, and the other side is clear. We hunted high and low for these bags and just love them. They are very elegant and will enhance your tea experience as well as make our teas perfectly suited for gift giving.
