Tallow Face & Body Cream W/100%, 4oz
39,00 AUD
Rich, old-school moisture your skin will love.
Looking for deeply nourishing skincare? Did you know tallow is naturally rich in fatty acids that closely resemble those in our own skin? Smooth on a little and feel the difference.
Tallow is rendered beef fat, and it has been used in soaps, candles and skin care for centuries. Grass-fed tallow is rich in fats that are similar to those found in our own skin, which is why it is making a comeback in natural skin care. Tallow creams and balms feel rich and creamy, melt at skin temperature and leave dry skin feeling soft, nourished and protected.

The science behind it
Beef tallow is made up mostly of triglycerides, with a fatty acid mix of roughly equal parts saturated fats (palmitic and stearic acid) and monounsaturated fat (oleic acid), plus small amounts of fat-soluble vitamins. Skin's own outer layer is made of lipids including ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids, and animal fats share many of the same building blocks.
This similarity is the main idea behind tallow skin care. Because the fatty acid profile is close to the skin's own sebum, tallow is thought to blend in well, softening the surface and helping reduce water loss. As a solid fat at room temperature, it also acts as an occlusive that holds moisture in.
It is important to be honest about the evidence:
- Many claims online come from traditional use and personal experience rather than clinical trials.
- The moisturising effect of rich occlusive fats is well established (see the American Academy of Dermatology guidance on moisturisers), but there are very few studies on tallow itself.
- Quality matters: grass-fed, well-rendered, gently purified tallow tends to have a milder scent.
Tallow is often whipped with olive or jojoba oil or beeswax for a creamier texture. It contains no water, so it is naturally stable, though the fats can slowly oxidise if exposed to heat and light. Store in a cool place. Some people find heavy fats feel greasy or clog pores on facial skin, so suitability is individual.

It is a moisturiser based on rendered beef fat, often blended with plant oils and butters. It is used to soften and protect dry skin.
Why is tallow used in skin care?
Its fats resemble those in human skin and it forms a rich, protective layer. Many people find it very nourishing for dry skin.
Is tallow good for the face?
Some people enjoy it on dry facial skin, but it is rich and may feel heavy on oily or blemish-prone skin. Patch test and use sparingly.
Does tallow smell?
Well-rendered, purified tallow has a mild scent. Many products add essential oils or are left unscented.

Keep it in a cool, dark place with the lid on, and use clean hands. Most keep for many months.
Safety
For external use. Patch test before first use, and discontinue if irritation occurs. Not suitable for those who avoid animal products, and avoid use on broken skin or near the eyes; see a health professional for ongoing skin concerns.
