Warming, nourishing and full of old-school goodness.
Fancy something warming and nourishing? Did you know bone broth is made by slowly simmering bones for hours, drawing out natural collagen and minerals? Sip a cup for easy, comforting nutrition.
Bone broth is made by gently simmering animal bones, such as beef, chicken or fish, for many hours, often with vegetables, herbs and a splash of vinegar. This slow process draws out collagen, gelatin, minerals and amino acids into a nourishing liquid. Cultures around the world have sipped broths for generations as a comforting, easily digested food. Today bone broth is available as a ready-to-drink liquid, powder or capsule, and is popular with active and health-minded people.
Delivery: Ships from Australia. Usually arrives in 3 to 7 business days.

The science behind it
When bones and connective tissue are simmered, the collagen they contain breaks down into gelatin, a mix of amino acids and peptides. Gelatin is especially rich in glycine, proline and hydroxyproline, amino acids that are used to build the body's own collagen. Broth also contains small amounts of minerals leached from the bones, such as calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, along with glucosamine and chondroitin from cartilage.
How much protein? It varies widely. Home-made broth is often modest in protein, while concentrated powders may contain 10 grams or more per serve. Collagen is also lower in some essential amino acids, such as tryptophan, so it complements rather than replaces other protein foods.
Collagen evidence. Most clinical studies have used hydrolysed collagen peptides rather than broth. Trials suggest these may support skin elasticity and joint comfort when taken daily for 8 to 12 weeks. Whether broth delivers similar benefits is less certain, since the collagen content varies.
Gut health. Glycine and glutamine are involved in maintaining the cells lining the gut, which is the basis of many traditional uses, but direct human trials of broth are lacking.
The type of bone, the cooking time and the addition of acid all change the final result. Chicken broth is rich in type II collagen, while beef is mostly type I and III.

Common questions
What is bone broth good for?
It provides protein, collagen and minerals, and is traditionally enjoyed to support joints, skin and digestive comfort. It is also a warm, soothing drink.
Is bone broth the same as stock?
They are similar, but bone broth is simmered for much longer, typically 12 to 24 hours or more, to draw out more collagen, gelatin and minerals.
How much bone broth should I drink a day?
A cup a day is common. Powders and concentrates vary, so follow the label.
When is the best time to drink bone broth?
Any time suits. Many people sip it in the morning, between meals or as a light evening drink.
Is bone broth or collagen better?
Collagen peptides supply a more consistent amount of collagen and are the form tested in most studies. Bone broth is a whole food with other nutrients and flavour.
Does bone broth contain lots of calcium?
It contains some minerals, but usually less than people expect. Don't rely on it as your main calcium source.
Safety
Avoid if you are allergic to the animal source (such as fish, chicken, beef or shellfish). Broth can be high in sodium, so check labels if you limit salt. Speak to your healthcare professional if you are pregnant, or have a condition affecting your kidneys, or are on a low-histamine diet.
